A 9-year-old boy was killed when a speeding car ran through a red light and struck him while he was crossing the street near his Northridge home, police said Wednesday.
Pedro Villa died at 10:15 p.m. Tuesday at Northridge Hospital, about two hours after he was struck as he crossed Parthenia Street at Wilbur Avenue, Sgt. John O’Toole said.
Police arrested the driver of the car, John Apala, 18, of Northridge, on suspicion of felony manslaughter.
O’Toole said witnesses said Villa was walking south across Parthenia with the green light when Apala drove west at a high speed through the intersection. O’Toole said the impact hurled the boy across the intersection.
