Bobbie Minkin has been appointed first executive director of the Laguna Beach Chamber Music Society, which will start its 29th season on Oct. 3. Previously, the society has been run with board and volunteer efforts.
Minkin, who was mayor of Laguna Beach in 1985, has been associated with the society for more than six years and was its president in the 1977-78 season.
In addition, the society has bought a 9-foot Steinway concert grand piano for about $46,000 from donations of $10,000 from the Laguna Beach Festival of the Arts; $10,000 from Mr. and Mrs. Robert Rawlings, and a $10,000 matching grant from county music pioneer Frieda Belinfante, according to Minkin. The society is raising the rest of the money, Minkin said Thursday.
Plans are also being completed for a $600,000 renovation of the hall that the society rents for its concerts at Laguna Beach High School.
