Local News in Brief : Motorist Hits Couple From Glendale; 1 Dies

A car struck a Glendale couple walking across a Balboa Peninsula street early Saturday, killing the man and injuring his companion, Newport Beach police said.
Paul Boutin, 19, was pronounced dead on arrival at Hoag Memorial Presbyterian Hospital, while Laura Rogers, 21, suffered head injuries and a broken pelvis in the accident, Police Lt. Tim Riley said.
Rogers was listed in serious condition at Fountain Valley Regional Hospital.
The couple were walking across West Balboa Boulevard about 1:20 a.m. when the car hit them, Riley said.
The driver, Peter Vasilia, 31, of Newport Beach, was not arrested pending further investigation, Riley said.
