Chrysler Corp. Chairman Lee Iacocca said in a television interview that U.S. auto makers lost the whole baby boom generation of car buyers to Japanese auto makers, and can only lure them back with quality vehicles. Iacocca said loyalty to a single car maker is no longer pervasive among American families. He said the U.S. companies have not been able to keep baby boomers born after World War II as their customers. Instead, he said these young people are buying Japanese autos. Asked what would bring back young buyers to the U.S. auto maker’s fold, Iacocca replied, “We’ve got to give them great quality at a good price. Then they’ll come back.”
