Kent Seton of Beverly Hills defeated Stuart Greenburg of Encino, 6-1, 7-6, to win the open men’s singles title at the 62nd annual Los Angeles City Public Parks Tennis Championships.
Other singles winners from the Westside and their divisions included Joel Fleiss of Santa Monica, 45 and older; Whitney Reed of West Los Angeles, 55 and older, and Frank Keister of Culver City, 60 and older.
In doubles, winners included Jarilyn Josephy of Pacific Palisades and Linda Howell of Los Angeles, women’s open; Jim Kelly of Marina del Rey and Jim Enstrom of Bel-Air, 40 and older, and Bill Roberti of Santa Monica and John Bennett of Los Angeles, 55 and older.
Three competitors from the S.H. Kim Tae Kwon Do school in Pacific Palisades took medals in that martial art’s national junior championships recently at the University of Florida, announced Denise Buch, an instructor at the school.
Chris Armes, 17, was a gold medalist for sparring in the green belt heavyweight division. Carrie Kandasamy , 13, won the silver medal for sparring in the yellow belt division for competitors from 130 to 139 pounds, and Jaimie Siegel, 13, took a bronze for form in the yellow belt division for those between 90 and 99 pounds.
Erec Fitzgerald, a top pitcher for Newbridge School last season, has returned from Stockholm, where he competed for a U.S. baseball team of college and high school players in an international tournament. Fitzgerald will be a senior at Newbridge this fall.
