Inland Steel Industries Inc. said its second-quarter profit soared more than fourfold due to strong demand for U.S.-made steel, higher prices and lower production costs. Chicago-based Inland reported record net income of $79.9 million, compared to $17.5 million a year ago. Sales increased 24% to $1.05 billion, while steel mill shipments totaled 1.3 million tons, a 12% gain from the year-ago period.
