Tandem Computers’ earnings dropped 33% to $17.3 million for the third quarter from a year ago. Revenue grew 27% to $339 million. The Cupertino, Calif., firm attributed the results to a delay in a major release of systems software, which made it impossible to fulfill customer demand for larger configurations.
