General Cinema Corp. said it is now convinced that an SEC 13D filing made by Kile Johnson, a London investor, indicating that he holds 6.1% of its common stock, is a hoax. The Chestnut Hill, Mass.-based company has verified that the filing itself is incomplete and that the London address shown does not exist. The company also said it has requested a formal investigation of the matter by the Division of Enforcement of the SEC and by the New York Stock Exchange. In the filing, Johnson said he holds 2.82 million General Cinema common shares.
