Three Hayward men were killed and another man suffered serious injuries when the single-engine Cessna Cardinal they were flying from Oakland to Las Vegas crashed in Sequoia-Kings Canyon National Park. Chief Park Ranger Doug Morris said the small plane crashed in a canyon at the upper end of Vidette Meadow on the western flank of the Sierra Nevada crest, at about 10,000 feet. He said a California Highway Patrol rescue helicopter airlifted the lone survivor, Dean Severns, 21, of Castro Valley, to a Fresno hospital, where he was in serious condition. Killed were pilot Colin Dobson, 25, Paul Grant, 22, and Daniel Eberle, 21.
