Local News in Brief : Brush Fire Near Oil Fields

Firefighters Thursday night were mopping up after an brush fire burned 8 to 10 acres of steep terrain near oil fields in Whittier.
The blaze, near Catalina Avenue and Mar Vista Street, was reported at 4:07 p.m., Los Angeles County Fire officials said. It was extinguished about an hour later.
No homes were threatened and no injuries were reported.
About 75 firefighters, aided by two water-dropping helicopters and a bulldozer, were sent to the scene in the northeastern portion of the city, bordering Hacienda Heights and the Puente Hills.
The flames broke out near a Standard Oil Co. field containing numerous oil derricks, pumps, and pipelines, officials said. The field was not threatened.
