Toronto Sun Publishing Corp. said it purchased a commercial printer in the Washington area, creating the possibility of a third daily newspaper in the U.S. capital. The publisher, known for putting scantily clad “Sunshine Girls” on Page 3 in its Canadian tabloids, did not reveal the price for Comprint Inc. of Gaithersburg, Md., but it was believed to be about $10.2 million. Comprint lacks ability to print a daily, but Sun Publishing said it likely would buy extra presses and equipment. The capital’s other newspapers are the dominant Washington Post and the Washington Times, owned by the Rev. Sun Myung Moon’s Unification Church, which has not made a profit since it began publication in 1982.
