Rangoon’s Riot Death Toll 3,000

Reuters

At least 3,000 people were killed in the Burmese capital of Rangoon last week when troops opened fire on crowds demanding multi-party democracy, diplomats quoted medical sources as saying today.

Provisional official figures had listed about 100 killed in the protests that swept Burma. No street demonstrations were reported today, but up to 3,000 people gathered in a courtyard at the red brick Rangoon General Hospital, a rallying place for student-led demonstrators.
