AUBURN HILLS, Mich. — The United States Olympic basketball team took it on the chin Sunday, and Coach John Thompson emerged from the loss with a grin.
Reggie Miller scored 20 points and Isiah Thomas had 15 points and 10 assists Sunday and an NBA Select Team handed Team U.S.A. its first defeat in five games against National Basketball Assn. teams, 90-83.
“That was more beneficial to us than winning by 10 or 30,” Thompson said. “They were very physical, and I was glad to see that. We have to find out about these guys.”
Thompson, in one of his better moods despite the loss, indicated that he has made his decision for the final 12-man roster but he would not reveal the last two cuts.
David Robinson and Dan Majerle led the Olympians with 13 points each. Danny Manning had 12.
