Deere & Co. more than tripled its earnings on a sales gain of 16% in the third quarter of 1988 despite the drought gripping much of the Farm Belt, the Moline, Ill.-based farm machinery maker reported. Deere earned $81 million in the period on sales of $1.39 billion. “Our increased profitability is due primarily to higher sales and production volumes, some improvement in price realization and greater efficiencies in our worldwide operations,” Deere Chairman Robert A. Hanson said in a news release.
