Local News in Brief : INS Orders Fines From 6 Companies

Authorities Tuesday served notices of fines totaling nearly $19,000 at six businesses in Southern California where illegal aliens were allegedly hired in defiance of the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986.
Harold Ezell, western regional commissioner of the Immigration and Naturalization Service, said two dozen other businesses will be served with notices of fines totaling about $50,000 in the next week.
Since June 1, when the INS began cracking down on errant employers, the INS has levied nearly $200,000 in fines against 56 businesses in the Western Region, which includes California, Arizona, Nevada, Hawaii and Guam.
Three of the companies cited Tuesday are in Los Angeles County.
