The flight attendants union of Trans World Airlines has rejected corporate raider Carl C. Icahn’s assurances that the airline would be financially sound if he is allowed to take it private. The Independent Federation of Flight Attendants renewed its demand for a Department of Transportation investigation into Icahn’s fitness to run the airline. Icahn, who owns about 73% of TWA and is the company’s chairman, has offered to acquire the rest of the company’s shares in a complex deal that shareholders are scheduled to vote on at a special meeting Wednesday. The union represents 9,000 TWA flight attendants around the world.
