The Soviet Union has bought an additional 300,000 metric tons of U.S. corn for delivery during the coming year, the Agriculture Department said. More than 2 million tons of corn have been sold by private exporters to the Soviets in the last week, according to USDA announcements. Corn prices have been averaging about $2.72 per bushel at the farm level, according to USDA estimates, meaning that the latest sale could have a farm value of around $32 million.
