An 18-year-old man was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting Tuesday night, Orange police said.
Rafel Valdivia Peregrina, who lived with relatives in Orange and Norwalk, was walking with two friends on Esplanade Street near Washington Avenue about 10:15 p.m. Tuesday when a small dark car traveling northbound drove up within 20 feet of them, said Orange Police Sgt. Timm Browne.
In the car were three males, about 18 to 20 years old. The passenger in the front seat pointed a handgun of unknown caliber at Peregrina and fired one shot, hitting Peregrina in the upper torso. The car then sped off.
Peregrina’s friends ran to a nearby fire station for help. Orange Fire Department paramedics rushed to the scene and administered emergency first aid. The victim was then taken to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana, where he was pronounced dead.
“No words were exchanged between them,” Browne said. “They didn’t know each other.”
