Favored Basic Exchange Wins Del Mar Feature

DEL MAR — Basic Exchange, ridden by Chris McCarron, battled Endow for the lead early in the stretch run, then pulled away to win Wednesday’s $65,100 feature race for 2-year-olds by 2 lengths at Del Mar.

Owned by Fred W. Hooper, Basic Exchange ran the six furlongs in 1:09 2/5.

Basic Exchange, the favorite of the crowd of 10,059, paid $4.40, $3.60 and $2.40. Endow, ridden by Gary Stevens, returned $3 and $2.60. The Loan Wolf, with Alex Solis aboard, paid $3.40 to show.

The victory was one of four for McCarron, who also scored on Playing Through ($6.40) in the third, Saros Bid ($9.20) in the fourth and A Fabulous Time ($11) in the fifth.
