Conner Adjusts Rules to Keep Cup at Home

In Rich Roberts’ pre-race coverage of the America’s Cup (Sept. 7), noted Maori carver Rawiri Pukepuke Ahitapu is quoted as saying he was fired from his job with the “New Zealand government-run tourist board” for carving a replica of a Maori sea god and presenting it to Dennis Conner.
Mr. Ahitapu has never worked for this office, and anyhow, New Zealand, with its keen sense of fair play, would never censor the man in such a way.
