National Semiconductor reported a net loss of $30.5 million for the first quarter, contrasted with net earnings of $13.5 million a year ago. The Santa Clara, Calif., computer chip and systems products maker noted that the loss includes a one-time pretax restructuring charge of $16.6 million, and also reflects continued pressures on the Information Systems Group. Sales were $649.4 million for the quarter, compared to $517.6 million last year.
