Myron Jones scored 3 touchdowns as Fresno State beat New Mexico State, 41-0, Saturday night in a Big West Conference game at Fresno.
Jones scored on a 46-yard run early in the first quarter to give the Bulldogs a 7-0 lead.
Fresno State (2-1 and 1-0) took a 27-0 halftime lead on Steve Loop’s field goals of 39 and 38 yards, Mark Barsotti’s 18-yard touchdown pass to Craig Jones and Jones’ 1-yard touchdown run.
Jones also scored on a 1-yard run early in the third-quarter and Darrell Rosette scored on a 3-yard run.
Fresno State’s defense held New Mexico to 127 yards of total offense, just 24 yards rushing. The Bulldogs had 3 interceptions and 6 sacks.
Jones led all rushers with 78 yards. Fresno State rushed for 243 yards in all.
New Mexico State (0-2 and 0-3) never came close to scoring. Marvin Johnson led the Aggies with 31 yards in 7 carries.
Idaho 36, Pacific 26--Idaho wide receiver John Jake returned a kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown and added a 6-yard touchdown catch 3 minutes later to lead the Vandals to a nonconference win at Stockton.
Pacific took an early lead on a 20-yard interception return by senior Ruben Harper.
Jake’s touchdown return on the ensuing kickoff tied the game.
Idaho, a Division I-AA team, improved to 2-0. Pacific fell to 0-3.
UOP sophomore Ron Beverly completed 14 of 26 passes for 117 yards.
