Five Carmelite nuns in Morris, N.J., said they intend to stay locked in their monastery until the Vatican rules on their case. But they have been ordered to cooperate with their bishop and accept the leadership of their prioress. Father Anthony Morello, who sits on the governing board of the Discalced Carmelite Order, reminded the nuns that they are under the jurisdiction of Bishop Frank Rodimer of the Paterson, N.J., diocese. Mother Theresa Hewitt disrupted their conservative life style of silent prayer and contemplation when she brought television, music, newspapers and candy into the monastery, the protesting nuns have charged.
