Tyro director Sam Shepard--his debut feature, “Far North,” opens here Nov. 9--telling Esquire magazine about his colleagues Woody Allen and Robert Altman: “They have no understanding of actors whatsoever. They’re (expletive)-poor as actors’ directors. They may be great film makers, but they have no respect for actors. Individually, each understands zip about acting. Allen knows even less than Altman, which is nothing.”
