CAMPAIGN ’88 : Jews Support Dukakis

A national poll commissioned by three Jewish publications indicated that American Jews support Dukakis by a ratio of almost 4 to 1.
The survey of 657 voting-age Jews contradicts speculation that concern about the influence of the Rev. Jesse Jackson, who has had stormy relations with Jews, might dampen Jews’ traditionally strong loyalty to the Democratic Party.
Dukakis was supported by 60.6% of those surveyed and Vice President Bush by 15.4%, with most of the remainder undecided. The poll had an error margin of plus or minus 6 percentage points.
It indicated that the Massachusetts governor enjoys even higher Jewish support than 1984 Democratic nominee Walter F. Mondale, who won about two-thirds of their vote.
The poll was commissioned by three Jewish weeklies: Long Island Jewish World, the Jewish World of South Florida and Jewish Week of Washington, D.C.
