VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. — An unarmed Minuteman 3 intercontinental ballistic missile was successfully launched early today on a 4,200-mile flight to a Pacific Ocean test range, the Air Force said.
The missile was launched at 7:28 a.m. and about 30 minutes later the unarmed reentry vehicles were tracked to targets in the Kwajalein missile range in the Marshall Islands, Capt. Teresa V. Waddell said. It was the 134th in a series of Strategic Air Command operational test launches of the Minuteman 3 weapons system and the 472nd test launch of a Minuteman missile from Vandenberg, Waddell said.
