Hart 39, San Gabriel 0--The Indians finished in a three-way tie for second place in the league with Burroughs and Burbank by crushing San Gabriel at East Los Angeles College.
Junior quarterback Rob Westervelt completed 17 of 24 passes for 215 yards and 3 touchdowns for Hart (6-4, 3-2). Westervelt has passed for 1,997 yards and 20 touchdowns this season.
Flanker Cameron Smyth caught 3 scoring passes--one on a flea-flicker from wide receiver John DePaco--and had 6 catches for 108 yards.
Smyth’s touchdown catches were of 12, 30 and 33 yards. Howard Blackwell closed the scoring on a 24-yard run with 7:32 left.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Indians scored 25 points in the second quarter. Scott Etheridge kicked a 42-yard field goal.
The Indians held the Matadors (2-8, 1-4) to 88 yards passing and minus-3 yards rushing.
