West Torrance Heads Girls Soccer Tourney Field

Top-seeded West Torrance, runner-up for the CIF 4-A title last season, heads a 16-team field in the 10th annual South Torrance Holiday Girls Soccer Tournament starting Saturday at South.
Torrance, which has won more tournament titles (five) than any team, is seeded third. Other South Bay entries are Palos Verdes, Bishop Montgomery, South, Hawthorne, St. Bernard, Mira Costa, North Torrance, Redondo and Rolling Hills.
Upland is seeded second and Edison of Huntington Beach is seeded fourth.
The tournament will feature several of the area’s top players, including All-CIF selections Teresa Bateman of West, Kristi Blankenship of Torrance, Jaymie Bradford of Hawthorne and Mira Costa’s Danielle Compton and Katie McPeak.
The 21st annual South Holiday boys tournament, featuring 32 teams, starts Dec. 10.

First-round games Saturday:
Field 1--St. Bernard vs. West Torrance, 7:30 a.m.; Edison vs. North Torrance, 8:50 a.m.; Rolling Hills vs. Upland, 11:30 a.m.
Field 2--Santa Monica vs. Hawthorne, 7:30 a.m.; Torrance vs. Villa Park, 8:50 a.m.
Field 3--Mira Costa vs. Palos Verdes, 7:30 a.m.; Bishop Montgomery vs. Redondo, 8:50 a.m.
Field 5--La Canada vs. South Torrance, 10:10 a.m.
(Quarterfinals are Saturday, starting at 11:50 a.m. Semifinals are Dec. 17. Finals are Dec. 23, 1 p.m.)
