Tony Collins, a former New England Patriots running back, was in stable condition after an apparent drug overdose.
Collins, 29, played for the New England Patriots from 1981 to 1987. He turned himself in for a 30-day drug rehabilitation last year and was waived by the Patriots last May.
In July, NFL Commissioner Pete Rozelle cleared Collins to sign with the Indianapolis Colts, but he was suspended for a year after testing positive for drugs in the preseason.
