PURDY, Mo. — A century-old ban on dancing at Purdy High School was ended with a homecoming dance after a basketball game Saturday night.
After a long and bitter fight, a federal court this summer found the school board’s rule against dances to be unconstitutional. Students in the past have held dances at the community center in this farming town of about 900 people, or in neighboring towns.
U.S. District Judge Russell Clark ruled that the ban promoted the values of those who oppose dancing for religious reasons.
