A project to provide foster care in Kansas for AIDS-infected infants from New York and California is among 54 organizations in 25 states that will share $16.7 million in grants from a private foundation. Donations will range from $5,000 to more than $1.8 million, said the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation of Princeton, N.J. Money will assist AIDS education and medical care for homeless people in Los Angeles, promote AIDS prevention among migrant and seasonal farm workers in Delaware, Maryland and Virginia and train 240 teen-agers in Chicago to educate peers about AIDS. In Kansas, a $70,185 grant will go to a Salvation Army program in which infected infants will be placed with foster families. It is often difficult to find such care within high-incidence communities, leaving infants unnecessarily hospitalized, the Johnson foundation said.
