Kriliya Moscow defeated USA Selects, 8-4, in the Spengler Cup hockey tournament in Switzerland despite 3 goals by Corey Millen, the top U.S. scorer at the Calgary Olympics.
Sergei Makarov scored twice to give Moscow an early 2-0 lead but Millen, who normally plays for the Swiss club Ambri Piotta, got the United States back into the game. After his third goal gave the Selects a 3-3 tie in the second period, bottles were thrown on the ice and forced a 15-minute delay.
The break seemed to stop the Selects’ momentum and the Soviets took control when play resumed.
