Peaceful Change
Stop the world! Although I’m aware that change is inevitable, changes have occurred in such rapid succession at the end of 1988 that we didn’t have time to adjust to them.
For instance: the Soviet Union, the Great Bear, after years of trying to crush tiny Afghanistan actually stopped trying.
Iran and Iraq, after years of bitter fighting, decided that enough is enough.
For the first time a black man, the Rev. Jesse Jackson, was a serious contender for the presidency of the United States.
The PLO actually has recognized Israel’s right to exist, and the United States has started a dialogue with the PLO.
History was made when Mikhail Gorbachev came to the United States and met with President Reagan and President-elect George Bush.
Let’s hope that these changes help to bring about a more peaceful world.
