Freeway League : Sunny Hills Stops Troy’s Stall

Troy High School tried a stall, but it only worked for a half as Sunny Hills was able to break through in the third quarter for a 50-27 victory Friday in the Freeway League boys’ basketball opener at Sunny Hills.
The teams were tied, 15-15, at the half but Sunny Hills, the favorite to win the league title, outscored Troy, 14-2, in the third quarter.
Jeff White and Walter Mitter scored 11 points each and Jon Beuerlein and Brett Mitchelson had 10 each for Sunny Hills (9-6, 1-0). Junior guard Mike Abbott scored a game-high 14 for Troy.
La Habra 78, Sonora 66--Sonora led by 2 points after three quarters, but center A.J. Ortiz scored 9 points in the fourth quarter to help La Habra outscore Sonora, 25-11, in the fourth quarter.
Playing at Sonora, Ortiz had a team-high 22 points and forward James Clegg added 19. Sonora’s Matt Recktenwald led all scorers with 28, and Greg Farlow had 15.
Fullerton 61, Buena Park 45--Fullerton scored the first 10 points of the game and took a 19-5 first-quarter lead.
Rene Arias hit 2 3-pointers to help stake Fullerton (8-5) to its early lead, and he finished with 16 points. Lee Green led Fullerton with 20 points and had 7 rebounds. Buena Park fell to 1-12.
