Computer company Honeywell Bull said it would cut its U.S. work force by 15%, or 1,600 employees, in the next two months to make itself more competitive in the industry. Honeywell Bull said most of the cuts will affect manufacturing and administrative functions. Honeywell Bull is 65.1%-owned by Groupe Bull of France, 19.9%-owned by Honeywell Inc. and 15% by NEC Corp. of Japan. The firm has 10,500 U.S. employees and 19,700 worldwide. The Boston-based company said a large portion of the cutbacks would be achieved through early retirement programs.
