A former RTD driver convicted of stealing $2,700 in parts from the transit district for use in his private bus was placed on three years probation Monday.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Albert Matthews also ordered Vernon Holloway, 47, of Pasadena to perform 200 hours of community service.

Holloway’s co-defendant, former RTD maintenance supervisor Franklin C. Jack, has been a fugitive since June, 1987.

The district attorney’s office said Jack helped Holloway steal a $700 air conditioning compressor from a district maintenance yard in Glendale in April, 1986. Prosecutors said the two men also stole about $2,000 worth of mechanical parts from the yard.
