A federal appeals court rejected a claim by the former owners of the then-San Diego Clippers that the head of the Nike shoe company promised to buy the National Basketball Assn. team for $13.5 million in 1980.
A 3-0 ruling of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco upheld a lower court ruling that dismissed a breach-of-contract suit by Irving Levin and Harold Lipton against Philip Knight, founder and chief executive officer of Nike Inc.
