Peruvian Rebels Kill 11 Policemen in 2 Raids

LIMA, Peru — Peruvian rebels killed 11 policemen in two separate attacks, raising to 24 the police death toll this year, police said Wednesday.
The rebels, possibly protecting cocaine processing plants and cultivations in return for money from drug smugglers, killed four policemen on Monday evening near the city of Tingo Maria in the jungle in northeastern Peru.
Earlier on Monday, seven police were killed in northeastern Huanuco province by Maoist rebels, police said.
