The Montreal Canadiens, who were eliminated by the Boston Bruins from the Stanley Cup playoffs last spring, are making up for it this season.
The Canadiens improved their season record to 6-0-1 against the Bruins with a 5-3 victory at Boston Thursday night.
“The playoffs are something we’ll remember if we meet them in the playoffs again this year,” said Montreal veteran Mike McPhee, whose goal at the end of the second period killed a Boston rally.
Montreal’s Stephane Richer had 1 goal and 2 assists.
Buffalo 6, Chicago 5--Ray Sheppard of the Sabres scored at 9:51 of the third period as the Blackhawks lost their 12th consecutive road game.
Pittsburgh 9, Minnesota 2--Rob Brown scored a goal and assisted on 5 others, and Mario Lemieux had a goal and 3 assists to lead the Penguins to victory over the North Stars at Minnesota.
Philadelphia 7, Quebec 2--Ron Sutter had 2 goals and 2 assists, and Mike Bullard scored twice as the Flyers defeated the Nordiques at Philadelphia.
