SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Jazz have extended the contract of forward Thurl Bailey and signed former Dallas guard Jim Farmer for the remainder of the 1988-89 season to replace ousted guard Bart Kofoed, the team announced.
General Manager Dave Checketts announced the transactions Thursday before the game with the San Antonio Spurs, which Utah won 115-91. The team this morning also signed 6-8 forward Eric White to a 10-day contract.
Checketts did not disclose the terms of Bailey’s contract but said the agreement “brings his compensation in line with players of his caliber and gives him long-term security.”
Bailey was making $650,000 this season, and the Salt Lake Tribune said sources, who were not identified, said the new contract is for six years and is worth $6 million.
The 6-foot-11, 232-pound Bailey, a former North Carolina State standout in his sixth season with the Jazz, has averaged a career-best 20.8 points per game this season, the 18th best in the NBA and second best on the team.
