A 41-year-old man was in fair condition at Sharp Memorial Hospital on Friday after spending more than seven hours trapped in the wreckage of his car at the bottom of a ravine near Alpine Highlands, authorities said.
Michael Moran of Costa Mesa was driving a pickup truck west on Interstate 8 just east of Willows Road at midnight Thursday when he apparently drifted into the center divider, and then overcorrected, veering across both westbound lanes, California Highway Patrol spokesman Bob Melton said.
The truck went airborne for about 100 feet and landed on its roof at the bottom of a ravine.
Melton said the driver of a passing truck spotted the wreckage at 7:30 a.m. and flagged down a CHP officer. It took 45 minutes to free Moran, who was flown to Sharp Memorial by helicopter.
