SAN DIEGO — A Costa Mesa man was in fair condition at Sharp Memorial Hospital Friday after spending more than 7 hours trapped in a wrecked pickup truck at the bottom of a ravine near Alpine Highlands in San Diego County, authorities said.
Michael Moran, 41, was driving west on Interstate 8 just east of Willows Road at midnight Thursday when his pickup apparently drifted into the center divider. The vehicle then veered across both westbound lanes, California Highway Patrol spokesman Bob Melton said.
The truck fell about 100 feet and landed on its roof at the bottom of the ravine.
