High School Girls’ Basketball : Torrid Reseda Blasts Birmingham

Reseda, the two-time City Section 3-A Division defending champion, recorded its third blowout in as many Valley Pac-8 Conference games with an 89-28 rout of Birmingham on Friday night.
Host Reseda, which earlier rolled over Grant (75-32) and Poly (75-22), was led by senior Jennifer Marzahl, who scored 25 points and had 11 rebounds. Cheryl Hightower added 18 points and 5 steals and Denisha Jordan scored 20 points.
Van Nuys 64, Grant 37--Stacie Toon (14 points), Winnie Tan (13) and Pam Matsuoka (10) led Van Nuys (7-3, 3-0) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Van Nuys.
Melissa Sullivan scored a game-high 22 points to lead Grant (2-5, 0-3).
Poly 43, Monroe 36--Julie Janes made 3 of 4 fourth-quarter free throws as Poly (2-6, 1-2) recorded its first Valley Pac-8 win.
Latanya Johnson had 5 points and 18 rebounds for Poly. Teammate Jackie Eto scored 13 points.
El Camino Real 75, Canoga Park 34--Lisa Huffaker and Cathy Balint each scored 20 points to lead the visiting Conquistadores to a Northwest Valley Conference rout. Alex Guida scored 11 points for El Camino Real (8-4, 3-0).
Chatsworth 66, Taft 30--Ericka Miller scored 12 of her 27 points in the first quarter to lead the Chancellors (6-1, 3-0) in the West Valley League game at Chatsworth. Teammate Tanisha Bernard had 17 points and 9 steals.
Cleveland 75, San Fernando 33--Kunoor Chopra scored 21 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead the Cavaliers in a Northwest Valley Conference game at San Fernando. Dawn Greer had 16 points, Jennifer Williams had 12 points and Amy Horst added 16 rebounds for Cleveland, which is 3-4, 2-1 in conference play.
In Southern Section games:
Hart 59, San Gabriel 39--Nikki Brodowy scored 13 of her 16 points in the second half, leading the Indians to their fourth consecutive win.
Leading, 22-18, at halftime, Hart (14-2, 3-0 in the Foothill League) outscored San Gabriel, 37-21, to secure the win. Sara Wilson also had 16 for Hart, while Desa Pecel added 15, 11 in the first half.
Burroughs 65, Schurr 54--Wendy Bruse had 23 points and 17 rebounds and Marya Vigil scored 22 as Burroughs (12-4, 3-0) stayed undefeated in Foothill League play.
Simi Valley 57, Westlake 53--Jill Schroeder hit 2 jump shots in the final 2 minutes, leading the host Pioneers (12-6, 3-2) to a come-from-behind Marmonte League win.
Josie Kosanke and Stephanie Allen led Simi Valley with 10 points each. Kacy Salmina topped Westlake (11-6, 2-2) with 20.
Oakwood 39, Faith Baptist 29--After its man-to-man defense was beaten in the first half, Oakwood switched to a 2-3 zone and forced Faith Baptist to shoot from outside. Faith Baptist was outscored, 27-12, after intermission.
Santa Ynez 59, Agoura 50--Santa Ynez utilized a full-court press during the first half to force 12 Agoura turnovers and open up a 31-15 lead.
