Soviet scientists said in San Francisco that they hope to reach an agreement soon with Monsanto, the giant St. Louis-based chemical producer, to set up a joint biological research laboratory. The laboratory, operated primarily by Soviet scientists using Monsanto-supplied equipment, would be located in the Soviet Union, said Vadim Ivanov, director of the Shemiakin Institute for Bio-organic Chemistry. Ivanov, attending a meeting of the American Assn. for the Advancement of Science, said the lab would be the first of its kind marrying U.S. and Soviet expertise in biological studies.
