Sports Briefs : 49ers to Be on the Road

The Cal State Long Beach men’s basketball team will take a 4-2 Big West Conference record into Saturday night’s game at New Mexico State. The 49ers, who lost at Fresno State, 56-55, Saturday night, and won at University of the Pacific, 76-61, Monday night, are 7-8 overall. They will return to the Long Beach gym next Thursday night to play UC Santa Barbara.
Joe Hicks in Hall of Fame
Joe Hicks, former baseball coach at Long Beach City College, has been inducted into the American Baseball Coaches Assn. Hall of Fame. In 22 years at LBCC, Hicks won three state titles and had a 514-257 record.
Powerlifting Tournament
The Armed Forces Powerlifting Championship will he held Feb. 15 and 16 at the Long Beach Naval Station gymnasium. The nation’s best military lifters will compete. For more information, call (213) 547-6300.
