Russell White, the state’s all-time leading rusher, heads a group of 4 Valley-area players who have been selected to the 32-member South team for this summer’s 37th Shrine All-Star football game.
Joining the Crespi High running back are Hart tight end Brian Allen, Agoura linebacker Carrick O’Quinn and Crespi quarterback Ron Redell, who was selected to the team as a defensive back.
The South team will be coached by Tim Burroughs of San Bernardino and Bill Redell, Ron’s father who resigned as Crespi’s coach at the end of last season.
The game is scheduled for July 23 at the Rose Bowl.
White finished his 3-year career with 5,998 rushing yards, 94 touchdowns and 568 points, all state records. In a senior season marred by injury, he gained 1,379 yards, caught 43 passes for 529 yards and scored 25 touchdowns.
Allen, who joined White on California Football’s all-state team, led Valley-area receivers with 62 receptions. He accounted for 818 yards and scored 14 touchdowns.
O’Quinn, also named to the all-state team, keyed Agoura’s defense, and Redell passed for 1,662 yards and 9 touchdowns, completing 150 of 215 passes (69.8%).
