The El Toro High School girls’ soccer team ended Mission Viejo’s national-record 84-game undefeated streak Thursday with a 2-1 South Coast League victory at El Toro.
El Toro (9-5-1 overall, 2-3 in league play) built a 2-0 halftime lead and held off a late rally to hand Mission Viejo (14-1-1 and 3-1-1) its first loss since Jan. 15, 1986.
Shawn Viloria and Shannon de Avila scored the El Toro goals in the first half.
Mission Viejo’s Annie Schroeder lined the ball passed El Toro goalie Paige Lauby with 8 minutes remaining in the game to make the score 2-1, but Lauby stopped 2 Mission Viejo scoring chances in the closing minutes.
