PLO to Go Slowly on Government for New Palestine State

TUNIS, Tunisia — The Palestine Liberation Organization has decided to take its time forming a government for its independent state of Palestine, a PLO leader said Friday.
Yasser Abed-Rabho, a member of the PLO Executive Committee, said: “We are not so enthusiastic about the government as we were. I don’t mean we have abandoned it, but it needs further study.”
Palestinian leaders have already changed their minds several times on the timing.
“We should have more consultations with European, socialist and Arab countries. The timing will depend on the settlement process, whether it is moving forward or not. . . . We should be patient,” Abed-Rabho said.
He said his organization wants guarantees that European countries will recognize the government, and it must decide whether to name ministers from inside the Israeli-occupied territories.
