In the article I wrote, “Vive La France” (Jan. 1), an error was made on 1989 events planned for the bicentenary celebrations of the French Revolution. A paragraph concerning the statues of George Washington and the Marquis de Lafayette that shake hands in the Square des Etats-Unis was changed to make it appear that the two leaders actually did shake hands there. Washington never visited France and the square was not there in his day. Thanks for bringing this correction to the attention of the Travel Section’s readers.
