Vanderbilt basketball Coach C.M. Newton was named athletic director at Kentucky, replacing Cliff Hagan. Hagan resigned late last year amid a continuing National Collegiate Athletic Assn. investigation of the university’s basketball program, which was charged with 18 violations of regulations last year.
